Rick Nickles, the founder of New Alpha Wellness Center formally known as New Alpha Foundation, developed a commitment that remains two decades later: to provide the highest level of selfless service where the needs of The New Alpha's guests are met and exceeded with love and compassion on their path to recovery.
The New Alpha was established on May 1, 2003 as a venture to house two formerly homeless veterans. Both individuals were receiving psychiatric and substance services through the Veteran’s Administration. Shortly after its inception, The New Alpha gained the attention of South Carolina's mental health centers which began to reach out for assistance with housing individuals who were habitually placed in psychiatric hospitals, dependency clinics, and jails. It was immediately apparent that these individuals needed more than three daily meals, clothes, and hygiene items; consequently, The New Alpha blended the needs of basic necessities with support, encouragement, and mentoring. By being able to successfully deal with individuals who were labeled as “difficult”, The New Alpha gained a reputation as the go-to source for such clientele. The New Alpha has well established relationships throughout the recovery community with local, state and national agencies.
To provide a safe, supportive environment where residents can gain essential skills necessary to improve their quality of life.
